Are you tired of talking about the 2024 elections yet? Neither are we! Let's discuss the election results from a feminist perspective.
The 2024 elections are over and inauguration day has passed! A slightly lower number of women ran for elected office- for the presidency, in both chambers of Congress, and in legislatures across the country- than in the last few election cycles. Many ballot issues throughout the nation dealt with feminist issues: ten states decided abortion-related ballot issues; five states decided whether to increase their states minimum wages (federal minimum wage has stagnated at $7.25/hour since 2009); and two states decided if paid sick leave should be required.
We'll discuss what the outcomes of the 2024 election cycle means for feminist issues and how the results effect women in our area, state, and country.
The Steinem Sisters Collection champions women’s historical, cultural, and political contributions and strives to provide a welcoming space for women from all walks of life to share their truths. It is composed of “feminist materials,” intersectional works that uphold human and women’s rights and interests in defining and promoting political, economic, personal, and social equality of the sexes, races, classes, sexual orientations, and genders. The Steinem Sisters Collection has grown to over 900 titles in the ten years since its inception. Regular programming, including book discussion groups and talking circles, aims to highlight the collection and build community. This collection was possible due to a generous donation by The Steinem’s Sisters Collective.
