Family Peer Support (FPS) providers use their lived experiences to offer hope, guidance, and connection to fellow caregivers. Ready to support others while growing your skills? Attend our 40-hour training and start your journey to become a certified Family Peer Support.

Although training is open to all, preference will be given to residents of Lucas County, Ohio.
Applications close September 23, 2026, and all requested information must be received by this date.

Before registering for this training, please read the information provided below.

Individuals seeking certification as family peer supporters in the state of Ohio must provide proof of:

• a high school diploma or equivalent
• a minimum of 40-hours of competency-based peer services training (The NAMI Ohio Family Peer Support training is approved by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services for the workforce development of certified family peer supporters.)
• passing the family peer support exam
• having read and understood the code of ethics
• passing BCI and FBI background checks*

*The following offenses are permanently disqualifying:

• aggravated murder
• rape
• sexual battery
• gross sexual imposition
• pandering obscenity
• pandering sexually-oriented matter involving a minor
• illegal use of minor in nudity-oriented material or performance
• making a terrorist threat
• terrorism

**The following offenses are disqualifying for a period of five years

• permitting child abuse
• failing to provide for a functionally impaired person
• patient abuse and neglect
• patient endangerment
• criminal child enticement (felony level)
• unlawful conduct with respect to documents
• trafficking in persons
• unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, formerly corruption of a minor
• sexual imposition
• importuning
• voyeurism
• felonious sexual imposition
• disseminating matter harmful to juveniles
• pandering obscenity involving a minor
• soliciting/providing for act of terrorism
• Medicaid fraud
• endangering children
