This class is intended for parents/guardians and youth to learn together how to assist in an emergency situation when a teen or adult suddenly collapses.
Studies indicate that many bystanders are hesitant to react in an emergency because they feel they are not adequately trained or are afraid to provide mouth-to-mouth breaths. The American Heart Association's research has shown that the heart usually has about ten minutes of residual oxygen in the blood. Providing early chest compressions and early access to an automatic external defibrillator (AED) offers the best chance for survival in a sudden cardiac emergency.
Bystanders with this hands-only form of training increase the likelihood of positive outcomes for patients in cardiac arrest prior to the arrival of first responders. Big Brothers Big Sisters of NWO, On The Line CPR, and the Mott Library have partnered to offer this lifesaving training. This 30-minute training, followed by a 30-minute informational session, will provide the communities we serve with basic skills to react in an emergency. This Hands-Only CPR training is FREE; however, it is not a certification course.
