Meeting Room A (Capacity : 35)

Learn the properties of glass, some history, and ways artists manipulate the material, while creating a new and unique glass fused mosaic of your own.

This is a six-week course and attendance is necessary at each session, as the information will build on previous sessions.

Glass has propensity to be difficult, but with a calm, direct approach one can learn how to make it malleable. This course will briefly go over types of glass, and specifically the type of glass used during this fusing process, as well as the properties of glass during the heating, annealing, and cooling processes. Participants will learn to use glass cutting wheels, running pliers, and grozing tools to shape the glass as needed.

This course is funded by Creative Aging Ohio and presented by Matthew Paskiet. Matt started his study of glassblowing at the Toledo Museum of Art in 1993 and then continued his studies at Pilchuck Glass School in Washington state in 1998, as well as Fundacio Centre del Vidre in Barcelona in 2001. Matt also refined his skills by assisting Chihuly’s Boathouse Studio team in 1999-2000 and multiple esteemed glass artists throughout that time. He later returned home to Toledo and opened Firenation Glass Studio and Gallery in Holland in 2002, where he has been blowing glass locally ever since.
