Death, Dying, and Religion

The mysteries of death and the afterlife have captivated our imagination throughout the history of humankind. What happens to us when we die? Do we continue to exist in some other form? As a spirit? As another human? As an animal or a plant? Do we transcend into a different realm, underworld, or heaven? Dr. Diller and Dr. Feldmeier will lead a conversation about the religious and spiritual beliefs of cultures around the world and how they may influence medical end-of-life decisions.

Presented by:

Jeanine Diller, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at The University of Toledo with a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Michigan specializing in philosophy of religion. She teaches and researches in philosophy of religion and religious studies, concentrating especially on the nature of ultimate reality, the diversity of traditional and secular views of religion, and the power of religion to change the world for ill and for good.

Peter Feldmeier, PhD is the Murray/Bacik Professor of Catholic Studies at the University of Toledo. He specializes in Christian Spirituality, Comparative Theology, and Buddhist-Christian dialogue. He is the author of twelve books and over thirty professional articles
