About the event

Renowned as a "genius of the modern American moment," #1 New York Times bestselling author Jess Walter joins Authors! to discuss his latest work, So Far Gone. Walter is celebrated for his "protean storytelling power" and a signature style that blends "standup tragedy" with sharp social observation. Immerse yourself in the mind of one of America’s most versatile writers as he explores the complexities of family and a fractured nation. This event features a 45-minute presentation followed by a brief audience Q&A. Each ticket includes a copy of the book.

About the book

So Far Gone follows Rhys Kinnick, a reclusive former journalist who fled to the Pacific Northwest woods seven years ago after a politically charged family fallout. His self-imposed exile is shattered when his grandchildren appear on his doorstep, revealing that his daughter has vanished and her husband has fallen in with a dangerous Christian nationalist militia. Forced to reemerge into a world he no longer recognizes, Rhys embarks on a "rollicking and heartrending" journey through cultural lunacy to rescue his family. Along the way, he must confront the rubble of his own past to find a path toward reconnection in an increasingly divided America.

About the author

Jess Walter is the author of ten books, including the #1 New York Times bestseller Beautiful Ruins and the National Book Award finalist The Zero. A winner of the Edgar Allan Poe Award for Citizen Vince, his work spans across literary fiction, thrillers, and award-winning short story collections like The Angel of Rome. Before his career in fiction, Walter was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for his reporting on the Ruby Ridge standoff, which became the subject of his first nonfiction book. He has been published in over 30 languages and currently lives in his hometown of Spokane, Washington.
