About the event

New York Times bestselling author Bethany Joy Lenz joins the Authors! series to discuss her upcoming novel, The Betrayal of Cora Wexford. Known for her hit memoir and her dynamic career in the arts, Lenz will share what drew her to write a psychological thriller set in Victorian London. During the event, she will chat about her creative process, her transition from nonfiction to historical suspense, and how she researches the complex social history behind her plots. The evening features a 45-minute talk followed by a brief audience Q&A. Every ticket includes a copy of the book.

About the book

Set in 1880s London, The Betrayal of Cora Wexford follows a 38-year-old American expat who makes a living by painting portraits of the dead. Seeking a fresh start from her past secrets, Cora is introduced to a charming stranger, Miles Vale, and is simultaneously commissioned by a suffragist to paint a series of ordinary women forgotten by the system. However, when several women turn up murdered in a gruesome manner reminiscent of Jack the Ripper, Cora’s work turns into a dangerous obsession. As her reality and her relationship with Miles become increasingly disorienting, she must confront a terrifying unraveling closer to home.
