Swipe, Scroll, Swoon: Romance in the Age of Social Media

Today's romance community extends far beyond the pages of a book. Led by Susan Lee, this panel will discuss how social media has affected their process and how they connect with readers.

ABOUT THE MODERATOR

Susan Lee is a USA Today bestselling author of both young adult and adult romantic comedies. Her work has been featured in national outlets such as Buzzfeed, NPR, People Magazine and Pop Sugar. Kirkus Reviews calls Susan’s voice “honest, fresh and thoughtful”. A graduate of UC San Diego, Susan built a career as an HR executive at some of today’s hottest companies, until she realized that writing love stories was a more impactful and powerful form of resistance and change. Now she channels her energy into publishing Happily Ever Afters for those historically underrepresented in Romance. When she is not writing (or painfully procrastinating from writing), Susan can be found down the rabbit holes of her many obsessions including listening to Kpop, binge watching K-dramas, collecting sneakers, building mechanical keyboards, and obsessing over her diva chihuahua, Buttercup.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Ruby Rana is an elder millennial who writes spicy, funny and heartfelt romance about sassy brown girls. She excels in sending messages where autocorrect has gone terribly wrong. When she's not battling typos, you can find her explaining Midwestern slang to her East Coast-raised husband, being used as a jungle gym by her young children or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.

Anastasia Wilder is a dark romance author who writes morally grey stories for readers who want to be seen, desired, and worshipped. The kind of stories that have velvet-wrapped romance, laced with shadows and desire—and thoughts that linger. Anastasia lives in the Midwest with her husband and two fur babies.

Maude Winters is an pansexual, disabled author of open-door sapphic and billionaire romance. She’s a horse girl through and through. Though raised in Chicagoland, she lives in Michigan with her husband, a horse-obsessed child, and three dogs.

Allison Kennedy is a proud disabled US Navy Combat Veteran born and raised in Northwest Ohio. 

Sensory Considerations: This program will use artificial lighting.  All speakers will use microphones.

Accessibility Details: Located on the first floor, accessed by elevator and/or stairs. All doors will feature an automatic function or be propped open prior to program start. Tile or low pile carpet throughout the building. Limited free parking is available in the attached garage.
