About the event

USA Today bestselling author Bruce Borgos joins Authors! to talk about his upcoming thriller, The Riddle Maker. Known for his sharp, fast-paced procedural mysteries set against the rugged Nevada desert, Borgos brings a unique blend of modern law enforcement and rich history to his work. Learn about his writing process, how his background shapes his gritty plots, and the challenge of balancing suspense with humor in his popular Porter Beck series. The evening includes a 45-minute presentation followed by a brief audience Q&A. Every ticket includes a copy of the book.

About the book

In The Riddle Maker, Nevada sheriff Porter Beck receives a cryptic clue left in a weathered mailbox near the perimeter of Area 51. Deciphering the message leads Beck and his team to a body hidden for decades at the bottom of Lake Mead, tying the victim to Beck in a deeply personal way. As more riddles surface—each pointing to another long-missing victim—Beck realizes he is hunting a relentless serial killer who has spent a lifetime eluding the law by changing identities, hunting grounds, and methods. To stop the killer's final, devastating scheme, Beck must piece together the clues before time runs out.

About the author

Bruce Borgos is the author of the critically acclaimed Porter Beck Mystery series, which includes The Bitter Past, Shades of Mercy, and The Blue Horse. A near-lifelong resident of Nevada, he worked as a private investigator and newspaper reporter before turning to fiction full-time, a background that brings sharp realism and attention to detail to his modern Western thrillers. Borgos is a member of the Western Writers of America and lives in Las Vegas with his wife, Pam.
