Celebrate Women’s History Month with a free screening of “We Are the Troopers,” a new documentary that chronicles the legacy of the Toledo Troopers, one of the most successful teams in professional football history. The event includes a panel discussion with members of the Toledo Troopers, offering firsthand insight into the team’s impact on women’s sports and local history.
The Toledo Troopers played their first professional women’s football game in 1971 and went on to win seven world championships between 1971 and 1979 in the Women’s Professional Football League and later the National Women’s Football League. In 1983, the team was recognized as the winningest team in professional football history at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Troopers were also the first team inducted into the Women’s Foundation Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
Join us on Wednesday, March 4 at 5:30 pm to view the team's documentary and a short discussion with several Troopers.
"We Are the Troopers" was released On Demand on Jan. 16, 2026 and is available on all major streaming platforms, including hoopla, which is free to use with a Toledo Library card.
This screening is made possible by Communica and Buffalo 8. This event is part of a statewide film festival celebrating America 250, sponsored by the Ohioana Library and Ohio Goes to the Movies.
